Cherry's Cake

This is a shout out for my dear wife who created the most beautiful cake for mom's 60th birthday.

It took a total of fourteen man hours over three days to complete the cake and it came out beautifully! Fantastic effort indeed!

Inspired by a photo from a book I actually think her creation is far better and more fitting for the occasion.

Instead of the usual dense cake as the base she managed to pull it off using a light marble sponge. The delicate nature of the cake made it difficult to ganache but she made it work with her gentle hands and technique.

This was only her second attempt at making cakes like this. She has no "formal" training to speak of.

Saying I'm impressed is a gross understatement. I salute you Cherry! You always had it in you!

Thanks honey! Perhaps I'm wearing my ruby shoes when I made that cake.

Only her second attempt? It's absolutely beautiful! I love the center, where it seems to open up and the stars burst out . . . truly a stunning cake. I'm sure it was delicious but I might have hesitated to cut into at first. 8-D

'Much appreciated TN! You're right! They're stars exploding out of the gift box...

Hehehehe... part of the fun was actually devouring her masterpiece!

this is one of those silly comments that you'll usually receive when you make something so pretty and mind-blowing:

why don't you put up a cake business?

*shoots self on the temple*

I hope you're still alright ziggy... ;)

Your comment was not silly at all...it actually is a good idea...

Our fear though is, turning it into a business might take away the fun...

so, for now, we'll just make them for family/friends on their special occassions... watch out for more "cake" posts in the future...

that's the best way to go at it. i've been cooking Filipino food in the office and the officemates loved adobo. one mate said i should do that frequently and wait for someone to ask me for catering. the back of my head says "no silly", but to think of it, cooking (or in your wife's case, baking) for people you know is where it starts. running a business though is totally a different monster. but yeah, start with it and see where it leads. :) say hello to your wife for me. :)

hello there again ziggy!

Have you been following Masterchef?

I like how Adam articulated his passion. He says it's about "...what you make for someone when you love them..."

Cooking for "others" is something I need to learn...
